How to Get Free Identity Protection Services Being Offered to PSN Users

Sony is extending an offer of free identity protection through AllClear ID PLUS for a year to users of its PlayStation Network. This protection comes in the wake of a massive breach of its customer databases resulting in millions of its account holders’ information being accessible to unknown parties. The original deal, which expired on June 28th, has been extended until July 31st to allow any users who have not yet heard about the offer to take part.

You can sign up for the program by visiting the official page, here.

This protection, provided by AllClear ID PLUS, monitors use of your identity through several credit and law enforcement systems. If it detects that your identity is being used in a way that could be malicious, it sends you an alert so that you can take action. Immediate access to its team of investigators and identity theft insurance are also available through this program. It appears that the PLUS product doesn’t have all the features of one of the PRO accounts, available through the official AllClear Web site.

If you’re not a PlayStation Network user, you can still get free protection through AllCear ID’s regular free program. Its free program includes Internet¬†surveillance, ID attack reporting, and limited use of its team of investigators to repair any damage done by identity theft.¬†Unlike Plus or Pro, its regular free service does not include identity theft insurance, triple bureau credit monitoring, and immediate connection with investigators.

Having your identity stolen is a costly and long-term situation. Months, and even years of work can go into repairing someone’s credit and/or legal situation once identity theft has occurred. Having a line of defense in place can make a big difference when attacks occur. Sony has taken steps to make up for the breach that took place on its servers, but more and more companies are facing similar sophisticated attacks on their customer databases. In the end, the steps you take today might save you a lot of heartache tomorrow.
