The Pandaren will be a new playable race created for the Mists of Pandaria expansion of World of Warcraft. It is a neutral class that can be played as either Alliance or Horde, an allegiance formed at level 10. The Pandaren are from a serene and considerably tranquil land known as Pandaria, which itself is a new five-zone continent available for World of Warcraft players to explore.
Other changes coming with the new expansion include: a new Monk class, talent tree, PvE scenarios, pet battles (collect, level, name, and fight), and more.
Like any race in WoW, playing a Pandaren does have a set of perks including:
- Epicurean – Increase the stat benefits from food by 100%.
- Gourmand – Cooking skill increased by 15.
- Inner Peace – Your rested experience bonus lasts twice as long.
- Bouncy – You take 50% less falling damage.
- Quaking Palm – You touch a secret pressure point on an enemy target, putting it to sleep for 3 seconds.
In addition to being an awesome panda race, they are also fairly diverse. You can play a number of classes as a Pandaren including:
Death Knight, Druid, Paladin, and Warlock are unavailable on Pandaren for storyline and consistency reasons. After all, how many people would want to play a bear that turns into a bear?
The Pandaren are the first added playable race to World of Warcraft in years. Because the Pandaren can align themselves with either Horde or Alliance, they are also one of the most flexible playable races in the game, giving players the ability to hold off on their decision until level 10.
Currently, Blizzard has not fully fleshed out the various looks of the Pandaren, giving them one basic look for females and not much more for males. Again, this expansion is still under development, so more is expected by the time of launch. How many different looks can you give a panda, really?
